Night in Sampa

In a moment of deep changes in my life and having my sensibility shaped by photography came a desire to photograph Sao Paulo.

These photographs, captured in 2014, marks the start of a profound personal change, a period where my perception of the world was being reshaped by the power of photography. This newfound sensitivity made me explore and document São Paulo, the city that had been my home for the great part of my life.

Even had lived in São Paulo for years, it was through the lens of a camera, I began to see it anew. It was no longer just a place I inhabited. It became a subject, a character in a story I was now compelled to tell. This image represents that rediscovery, a fresh perspective on a familiar landscape.

São Paulo is a city of relentless energy, specially at night. It’s a place where opportunities abound, and the pulse of life never truly sleeps. It’s a concrete jungle, a testament to human ambition and ingenuity. Yet, beneath the surface of towering skyscrapers and bustling avenues lies a complex tapestry of rhythms and diversity.

The city’s vibrant lights, often depicted in photographs, symbolize the soaring aspirations of its inhabitants, the dreams that propel them forward. But São Paulo is also a city of stark realities, a place where the weight of daily life can bring one crashing back down to earth. It’s a city of contrasts, a constant push and pull between hope and hardship.

These photos are a glimpse into some places that are part of the soul of São Paulo, and are my attempt to share my São Paulo, the city I rediscovered, with the world.
